Ladakh does not ease you in. You land at 11,500 feet, the air is thin and startlingly clear, and the mountains have no trees on them at all. Give it a day and the place resolves — whitewashed monasteries on ridgelines, barley fields in a cold desert, prayer flags strung over passes where the road tops out above 17,000 feet.

This itinerary is built around the altitude rather than in spite of it. The first full day stays in Leh. Only then do we cross Khardung La to the dunes at Hunder, and on to Pangong, where the lake changes colour through the afternoon and keeps doing it until the light goes. Vehicles are private, permits are arranged, and oxygen travels with you.

Leh sits at 11,500 feet, so the first day is deliberately kept free for acclimatisation — no sightseeing, no driving. We only climb to Khardung La and Pangong once you have had a full day at rest, carry oxygen in every vehicle, and brief you on hydration and pacing before departure.

Yes. Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake and Khardung La all need permits, and we arrange them for you. Carry your original photo ID — for Indian nationals an Aadhaar or passport, and for foreign nationals a passport with a valid visa.

The flights run year round, but the Manali–Leh and Srinagar–Leh highways are only clear from roughly June to October. May to September is the reliable window for the full Nubra and Pangong circuit; earlier or later and Chang La or Khardung La can close at short notice.

It depends on the person rather than the age. The altitude is the deciding factor, not the walking, which is light throughout. We ask for a doctor's clearance for anyone with a heart or respiratory condition, and we can shorten the Pangong night to a day trip where a lower sleeping altitude is safer.
